Are You Suffering From Jaw Pain?
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are caused by problems with the jaw and the muscles surrounding the jaw that control chewing. TMD, also known as a TMJ disorder, can lead to a number of uncomfortable symptoms including,
- Pain around the ears and jaw joints when you chew or speak
- Limited ability to open your mouth very wide
- Clicking or popping sounds whenever you open your mouth
- Jaws that lock up unexpectedly
Fortunately, there are a number of therapies for TMD that can help ease and erase symptoms. At Lifetime Smiles we offer custom-fitted splints (also called bite guards) which can be worn at night or during the day to stop tooth grinding. Likewise we provide a variety of physical therapy treatments, including TMJ exercise techniques which can help stretch and strengthen the jaw muscles. Our in-house massage therapist can also perform massages to relax and ease tension in the jaw muscles.
